They had an affair for almost twelve years. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, was one of the most charming men in France, married with two children. She was a famous theater actress, beautiful and younger than him. They finally decide to live together. He writes her the last letter shortly before driving to meet her in Paris: "I will see you soon, my love.
I am so happy with the idea that I smile just by writing it ... I will kiss you until Tuesday when we will start again ". He will never meet her. Αlbert Camus never returned and died in a car crash while driving with his publisher Michel Galimar shortly before arriving in Paris. It was 4 January 1960. María Casares will never get over it. In the window of my favorite bookstore in Basel, I find the book with the “correspondence” of the unfortunate couple. 865 letters from 1944 to 1959 for great love but also for an exciting period. I have given this snowy church a name of my own.
It is the church of Saints Albert and Maria.
